The joys of Spring

Well the lawnmowers are out again, all is quiet, and I finally get some time to write my blog.
It really is the oddest thing! When we started this business we figured there would be times when we’d be rushed off our feet and periods when it would be a bit quiet. For example, I had assumed that it would get quiet in the run up to Christmas; not a bit of it. In fact the run up to Christmas is often our busiest period as people suddenly realise that a bus load of heavily critical relatives are arriving shortly and the bathroom looks a state.

So if Christmas is busy, then straight after Christmas is bound to be slow? Not a bit of it! Not only do you have all those people who didn’t realise what a state their bathroom was in until AFTER a busload of critical relatives arrived, but you also have those sorry souls who actually give and receive new bathrooms as Christmas presents! Now is it just me, or do you suspect that the romance has gone out of the relationship when the parties involved choose to show how they feel by buying the apple of their eye a close-coupled toilet? I can just see the card: “Dearest darling one, I saw this bidet and thought of you.”
So are school holidays quiet? Again, I’d have thought yes, and there are certainly people who do avoid these periods, but there are also people who think that having a plumber in the house is the perfect way of entertaining the kids for a morning…. And boy, aren’t their enquiring minds a joy:
 ”What are you doing?”
“Fixing this waste pipe”
“Why?”
“Because it’s broken.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s leaking”
“Why?”
“Because it’s gone all brittle.”
“Why?”

“Because this waste pipe is made from non UV stabilized Polypropylene. Since it is outdoors, and so subject to constant bombardment by UV radiation, it has undergone photo-oxidation, rendering the material brittle and vulnerable to breaks and leaks. With this in mind, we have opted to replace it with a section of pipe manufactured from a more photo-stable polymer.”

……”Why?”
The morning just flies by.
So, Christmas, the New Year and the school holidays are busy… yet the moment you step out the door to find your ears assailed by the grumble of lawnmowers, the phone just stops ringing. Why???
