Recipes

As regular readers of this blog can confirm; you don’t half read a lot of nonsense. For example, I was browsing through a recipe book this evening and came across “Pork Jungle Curry”. The write up stated:

This fiery curry got its name from the originating cooks who, travelling through the jungle in Thailand’s central plains, had to make do with what was available there. It has remained popular because it’s easy to prepare and reminds Thais of their links with the past.”

From this description I expected an ingredients list something along the lines of:

  • Tree bark
  • Some grass
  • A dodgy looking berry that I got my mate to eat first
  • River water

 The actual ingredients list was:

  • Peanut oil
  • Red Curry Paste
  • Port fillet
  • Basil
  • Pickled Ka Chai
  • An eggplant
  • A carrot
  • Some beans
  • Bamboo shoots
  • Pickled green peppercorns
  • Lime leaves
  • Vegetable stock
  • Red chillies

No wonder the Thais enjoy recalling the past. Those halycon days of yesteryear when every jungle contained a lavishly stocked Tesco Express. When the now rare Ben & Jerry cookie dough Icecream tree flourished along side shrubs of chicken fajita, all sheltering beneath a canopy of mighty John Smiths extra smooth Baobabs.

No doubt this is where the now extinct Ham Bush originated Smile

…. By the way, the curry was great.
